Why We Love Longmont, CO
The home rule municipality of Longmont is situated in the American state of Colorado’s Boulder and Weld counties. Longmont is 33 miles (53 km) north-northwest of Denver, the state capital of Colorado, and northeast of Boulder, the county seat. Longmont has the 14th highest population in Colorado, with 100,000 residents.
The St. Vrain Valley School District, the Boulder County Campus of Front Range Community College, and a lot of private schools are located in Longmont. The Master Instructor Continuing Education Program (MICEP), a free accrediting program for aviation educators, is also located in Longmont.
The RTD transit area includes Longmont and offers local and regional bus service to Denver and Boulder. A regional bus service called FLEX connects Longmont to Fort Collins, Loveland, and Berthoud outside of RTD. The League of American Bicyclists designated Longmont as a silver-level bicycle-friendly municipality in 2012. One of the 38 communities in the US to receive this distinction is Longmont. It is the only silver-level city in Colorado that is neither a significant tourist destination nor a university town. The city owns the Vance Brand Airport. Although it does not currently have any scheduled passenger flights, general aviation uses it frequently.
A thriving craft brewing industry, as well as other businesses engaged in recreation and travel, are also supported by Longmont. Two of the biggest craft brewers in the country are among the local breweries. The nearby Brew Hop Trolley provides a hop-on, hop-off brewery tour for a set charge in order to meet the transportation demands of brewery visitors. There is a thriving “maker” community and a Saturday Farmers Market in Longmont as well.
