Lyons is a little town with a lot of personality, located at the meeting point of the North and South St. Vrain Creeks in the foothills. The original Oskar Blues Grill and Brew, as well as other well-known restaurants like Julie’s Thai Restaurant, Smokin’ Dave’s Barbeque and Tap House, the Barking Dog Café, and MainStage Brewing Company, to mention a few, are all located in Lyons. From artisan jewelry and antique originals to gifts and outdoor gear for any Colorado trip, Lyons’ shops have it all. The historic Lyons Formation sandstone, which has been mined since the 1880s, is another feature of Lyons. The red sandstone schoolhouse, which has been maintained and is now the Lyons Redstone Museum, functioned as Lyon’s first public structure. This gorgeous stone is used in many other old structures in Lyons, and it is used in construction all around Colorado.
The Rockygrass Bluegrass Festival and the Folks Festival, two annual music festivals held at Planet Bluegrass, host important concerts in Lyons. Because of its well-known lineup and broad, grassy, treed grounds with public seating at the foot of a red sandstone mountain near St. Vrain Creek, it attracts visitors from all over the country. In addition to building a new stage for the festivals recently, they also constructed the Wildflower covered pavilion, which enables smaller concerts all year long.
