The Most Popular 4/20 Events, Celebrations, and Traditions (Because We Can’t All Be Planners)
April 20 is a day every stoner knows.
It’s the closest thing we have to a dedicated weed holiday.
And many of us want to celebrate accordingly.
But, what’s the right way to celebrate cannabis? Should you go out and find a 420 event, or is it more in the weed-smoking spirit to stay home and get high?
However you choose to celebrate 4/20 this year, our guide to the most popular celebrations and traditions will make planning easy-peasy- smoke-that- cheesy.
Most Watched Stoner Movies
Every list of top stoner movies is different.
That could be because we don’t have a set definition for what constitutes a “stoner” movie. If we focus only on movies with weed as a central plot point (or a way to advance the plot), the list becomes much simpler.
If we also consider movies that are “enhanced” by marijuana, we get a list like that from The Cannabist. Their Top 20 Stoner Movies That Will Keep You Couch-Locked includes both pot-centric and pot-enhanced films.
10 Favorite 420 Films
1. Up In Smoke (1978)
2. The Big Lebowski (1998)
3. Dazed and Confused (1993)
4. Friday (1995)
5. Pineapple Express (2008)
6. Smiley Face (2007)
7. Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)
8. Easy Rider (1969)
9. Half-Baked (1998)
10. Reefer Madness (1936)
Of course, there are dozens of other incredible marijuana movies and shows if you can’t find something you love in The Cannabist’s Top 10: Fast Times at Ridgemont High; Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Super Troopers; How High; Dude, Where’s My Car?
If you prefer to keep your marijuana and movie plots separate, The Cannabist also compiled 10 fan favorite films that people love watching high, even though they aren’t about cannabis.
10 Non-Weed Films to Watch with Weed
1. Fantasia (1940)
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
3. The Holy Mountain (1973)
4. Blazing Saddles (1974)
5. Spirited Away (2001)
6. The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)
7. Star Wars (1977-1983)
8. Donnie Darko (2001)
9. Pulp Fiction (1994)
10. Mulholland Drive (2001)
As a general rule, any movie that offers stunning visuals, great audio, laugh-out- loud humor, or thought-provoking discussion goes well with weed. That said, stick with a genre you like: if you’re in the mood for comedy, watch a comedy.

There are over 40,000 4/20 themed playlists on Spotify.

Meet the Munchies: Feed Yourself After You Weed Yourself
Even if the strain your smoking doesn’t lead to the munchies, you’re going to get hungry at some point during the 4/20 festivities. And if you aren’t prepared with munchies at home and meal options on the go, you could end up more hangry than high.
What you eat is a matter of taste, of course, and we recommend stocking up on your favorites. But if you need a little help planning—or you just want to eat what other stoners eat—Philadelphia-based delivery company goPuff (found in 16 major markets) compiled a list of the most-ordered snacks on 4/20.
1. Ben & Jerry’s Half-Baked Ice Cream
2. Sour Patch Kids
3. Swedish Fish
5. Haribo Gummy Bears

7. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos
8. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
9. Ben & Jerry’s Tonight Dough

If you’d rather have a proper meal than fill up on sugary and salty treats, it’s hard to go wrong with pizza or—even simpler—pizza rolls.
Don’t like pizza? Other popular 4/20 meal options include donuts, macaroni & cheese, tacos, and chili cheese fries. And don’t forget to stop by Cheba Hut on Colorado Blvd in Denver for drink specials, prizes, live music, and a tap takeover from High Hops Brewery.
